Snow Pushers, Blades and Plows in Southern Alberta

Foothills Equipment carries 32 snow blades, plows and pushers for skid steers, wheel loaders, backhoes and motor graders, from Weldco-Beales, AMI and TMG Industrial. We are in Calgary and Lethbridge, serving Southern Alberta, everything south of Red Deer. Snow is a contract business here, and the attachment is what decides how many lots a machine gets through before daylight.

32 snow blades, plows and pushers across three lines.

Four tools, four jobs.

  • Snow pushers

A box with a steel edge and side plates, so nothing spills out the ends. On a big open lot it moves far more snow per pass than a blade, because it carries the whole windrow to the pile instead of rolling it off the end. Sized in feet, and the size has to match the machine, not the lot.

  • Angle blades

A moldboard that swings left and right from the cab, so the snow rolls off to one side as you drive. This is the tool for lanes, driveways, roads and anywhere you are casting snow rather than carrying it. The three in one and four in one versions add a box position, so the same blade pushes like a pusher when you want it to.

  • One way plows and V plows

A fixed cast in one direction, or a V that opens a road from the centre out. Built for speed on long runs and for breaking into drifted or packed snow rather than finishing a parking lot.

  • Snow wings

A second blade that hangs off the side of a grader or a loader and widens the pass. On a county road this is what turns two passes into one. Available with a mast or mastless, and with benching heights that let you cut the bank back rather than just push the top off.

  • Endgates and scarifiers

An endgate closes off the end of a grader moldboard so it carries snow instead of spilling it. An ice scarifier breaks the packed layer that a blade rides over.

  • And the fifth shape, which is on its own page

Every tool above moves snow to a pile, so every one of them needs somewhere for that pile to go. A snow blower does not. It throws the snow clear, which is what you want on tight lots with no room left, on narrow lanes, and in February when the banks are too high to push any higher.

Wider is not faster.

  • Size to the machine, not the lot

A pusher or blade that is too wide for the machine means it cannot fill it, cannot hold a line and spins its tires instead of pushing. Every product here is rated to a horsepower band or a machine class, and those ratings are the starting point. Our skid steer pushers, for example, are rated 40 to 70 HP, and the blades 30 to 60 HP.

  • Hydraulics for the angle

A hydraulic angle blade needs an auxiliary circuit to swing. Straight pushers and fixed blades do not. Check what the machine has before you pick the version.

  • The cutting edge decides the surface

Steel edges scrape hardest and are what you want on pavement you are trying to get down to. Rubber and fluid edges ride over cracks, manhole covers and gravel, which is what saves your machine and your client property. Several of our blades come in a fluid edge version for exactly that reason. Bolt on edges are wear parts and come off with a wrench.

  • Mount

Skid steer tools go on a universal skid steer quick attach. Loader and grader tools go on the machine hitch or master hitch, so the hitch standard has to match. Tell us what is on the machine.

  • Trip protection is worth asking about

A blade that trips or a spring loaded edge survives the curb you did not see. A rigid one does not.

On the TMG blade and the mini blade, the hydraulic hoses are included but the quick couplers are sold separately. That goes in the quote, not on the invoice as a surprise.

Questions we get asked

What size snow pusher should I put on my skid steer?

Match it to the machine horsepower and weight, not to how big the lot is. The pushers we carry for skid steers run 5 to 9 feet and are rated for 40 to 70 HP machines. Too wide and the machine cannot fill it or hold a line on a slope. Give us the make, model and horsepower and we will tell you the right width.

What is the difference between a snow pusher and a snow blade?

A pusher is a box. It carries the snow to the pile with nothing spilling off the ends, which is what you want on a big open lot. A blade angles and casts the snow off to the side as you drive, which is what you want on a lane, a road or a driveway. A lot of contractors end up running both.

Do I need hydraulics for a snow blade?

For a hydraulic angle blade, yes, one auxiliary circuit so the operator can swing it from the seat. Straight pushers and fixed plows do not need it. Note that on some blades the hoses come with the attachment but the quick couplers do not, so ask about that when you order.

Can I get a rubber or fluid edge instead of steel?

Yes, on most of the blades we carry. Steel scrapes down to the pavement and is what you want on a surface you are trying to clear properly. A fluid or rubber edge rides over cracks, covers and gravel, which protects the surface and the machine. Contractors working on a client finished lot usually want the softer edge.

Do you have snow attachments for a motor grader?

Yes, and it is one of the deeper parts of this line. Grader moldboards, U and V angle blades, one way plows, V plows, endgates and both mast and mastless snow wings with benching heights from 30 to 48 inches. Counties and municipal crews are exactly who these are built for.

Get it sorted before the first real snowfall.

Tell an advisor the machine, the surface and how many lots or kilometres you are responsible for. We will come back with the size and the edge that suits, and tell you what your hydraulics need to run it.
